The Blessing of the Horses is a species specific tradition held throughout the year in France, Switzerland, and Italy. Even the Roman calendar contained two days to honor Calgary horses. In the United States, one of the oldest annual equine blessings takes place at the Mission Santa Inez and coincides with the annual ride of Los Rancheros Vistadores de Santa Inez.
The Rancheros Visitadores (visiting ranchers) is an elite social club that meets the first weekend in May. Founded in 1930 by John Mitchell, membership in this legendary riding group is by invitation only. Members include politicians, celebrities, and professionals from throughout the United States and beyond. Among the hundreds of past ride members and participants are notables such as President Reagan, Jimmy Stewart, Gene Autry, Walt Disney, Leo Carrillo, and James Garner, to mention a few... "
