"Like it or not, pet nuptials and related practices are on the rise. For something exotic, travel to the island of Oahu. There, pets enjoy a beach wedding complete with a minister officiate, photographer, and pet leis. No pet wedding license requirements exist, but it's a good idea to check on quarantine issues before buying your tickets.
If you find yourself getting hot under the collar, consider the possibility of taking these types of events less seriously. Remember, pet weddings are not recognized by any government or church, so they aren't legally binding. Even though pet weddings don't have any official standing, they can be a lot of fun. For some people, the tradition resembles the neo-pagan ritual of hand-fasting, which involves making a renewable contract for a specific amount of time.
Bonding Ceremony
In this ceremony, friends or families of pets braid ribbons together. The colors can be significant to the duration of a breeding contract or can celebrate a foster pet's temporary integration into a home. Consider using white, blue, green, and orange ribbons to symbolize the seasons. Such a composition can represent an annual commitment.
Friends and family form a ring around the ceremony platform for the exchange of declarations. If desired, guests can bring flowers, pet treats, or toys to decorate the altar. Pet parents might request donations gift certificates be given to homeless pets in shelters.
