According to the Travel Industry Association of America, an estimated 29.1 million Americans have traveled with a pet in the past three years. The burgeoning group of beastly travelers ride fashionably in their own cushy carriers, wheeled travel crates, or sit pretty (and safely) outfitted in their own specialty seatbelts and other travel accessories. Pet passports, unique airline travel bonuses, and pet-oriented hotel programs make traveling with pets easier.
The pet traveling trend increases during the summer, when more families travel on vacation. Estimates indicate that of all pet travelers, 78% are canines. Felines take second place at 15%; the remaining 7% includes birds, ferrets, and fish. Vehicular travel by auto or truck is the primary mode of transportation, topping the list at 76%. Other popular modes of transport include expeditions via recreational vehicles (10%) and airline travel (6%) and motor coach (8%)... "
